Climate change is a global phenomenon that is increasingly pressing the attention of the world community. In recent decades, the impact of these changes has led to an increase in natural disasters, creating extreme weather patterns and worsening environmental conditions. Phenomena such as floods, droughts, cyclones and forest fires now occur frequently in various parts of the world. One of the main causes of climate change is increased greenhouse gas emissions, such as carbon dioxide, methane and nitrogen oxide, which occur due to human activities. Global warming caused by this gas causes the earth’s temperature to increase, thereby affecting rainfall patterns and temperatures in various regions. For example, areas that usually receive high rainfall can experience prolonged drought, while other areas that are usually dry can experience sudden heavy rain, leading to flooding. Flash floods are becoming more frequent in urban areas due to the inability of infrastructure to handle extreme rainfall. On the other hand, many agricultural areas are experiencing prolonged drought, destroying crop yields and food sources. According to the IPCC report, climate change could cause a decline in global agricultural production of up to 30% by 2050, which will have a major impact on world food security. Furthermore, the intensity and frequency of tropical storms has also increased, resulting in infrastructure damage, destruction of residents’ homes, and an increase in the number of refugees due to disasters. Natural disasters of this kind also add to the economic burden of affected countries, requiring large costs for rehabilitation and reconstruction. Forest fires that occur in various places, such as Australia and Brazil, are a direct result of extreme weather conditions triggered by climate change. These fires not only destroy ecosystems but also contribute to further carbon emissions, creating a dangerous feedback cycle. In addition, public health is threatened due to the resulting air pollution. Facing increasing natural disasters, it is important for the government and society to take mitigation and adaptation steps. Good spatial planning, wise management of natural resources, and educational programs about climate change can help reduce the impact of disasters. Global initiatives involving countries in agreements such as the Paris Agreement are key in overcoming this crisis. The use of environmentally friendly technology and renewable energy is also a much needed solution. Community involvement in environmental management, minimal deforestation, and strengthening regulations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions will be very helpful in the long term. In facing this reality, all parties need to collaborate to create a safer and more sustainable world.
